Drywall and Plastering
Drywall replaced heavy plastering infrastructure in most houses built after the 1950s. Also known as gypsum board, wallboard, or plasterboard, traditional drywall is constructed from a paper liner wrapped around a central core. Made from gypsum plaster mixed with fiber, paper or fiberglass, and water – a wet inner core is sandwiched between two sheets of heavy paper or fiberglass mats to dry off. Only after the gypsum core dries can the drywall be used as a strong building material. If left damp, mold can start growing on paper drywall. Fiberglass drywall on the other hand contains a moisture-resistant gypsum core that is also mold resistant. Bathroom remodeling employs fiberglass drywall because of the high moisture of the room when in use.
